Our Lady of the Rosary with the Christ Child

Swabia, 1727
Church of St. Blaise, Glottertal, Germany

In the 18th century many images of Our Lady of the Rosary continued the old practice of making the child fully naked or with just a wisp of fabric at the waist. Another feature of this period was the use of crowns on the figures. The sceptre in Mary's right hand, however, is not common.

Unlike other works that have Mary presenting the rosary to St. Dominic, this one has her offering it to the viewer, and offering not only the rosary but the Christ Child himself.
